ABOUT ME
Born in Vienna, Edmund Emge developed a passion for music and theater at an early age. His studies at the Vienna Conservatory and with renowned vocal teachers such as Gottfried Hornik, Janusz Monarcha, and Professor Egilsdottir laid the foundation for an impressive career as a bass-baritone. He has performed influential roles in operas such as Don Giovanni, Le Nozze di Figaro, The Magic Flute, and many others.
But Edmund's artistic work extends far beyond the operatic stage. As the founder of the "Opera Ensemble Rigoletto," he undertook successful tours throughout Europe, directed operas, adapted operas for young audiences, and performed on stage himself.
His commitment to the next generation was particularly evident at the St. Margarethen Opera Festival, where he initiated the children's opera section and was responsible for productions such as Hansel and Gretel, The Magic Flute, and Max and Moritz from 2001 to 2014.
The diversity of his interests led him to the "Mainfranken Theater Würzburg" in 2002 as head of the operations office, where he demonstrated his organizational talent and at the same time contributed his vocal skills to productions such as Anatevka and Two Hearts in Three-Quarter Time.
Edmund Emge also enjoyed international success: As artistic director of Kenya Opera, he created unforgettable concerts in Nairobi and Mombasa with European and African artists. In the USA, he taught at Southeastern University and directed the Oklahoma Opera Festival several times.
His commitment to socially relevant issues was evident in his collaboration with the Austrian federal government. His play "World in Motion" was performed over 100 times throughout Austria. He developed an innovative project for the Ministry of Social Affairs that opened up new perspectives for job seekers through theater work.
Edmund Emge expresses his passion for sharing his knowledge in his teaching activities. Since 2014, he has been organizing successful staged recitals with young singers for the "Dein Lied" festival. He also conducts workshops and seminars for executives on vocal and personality development.
In his directing work, Edmund Emge combines faithfulness to the original with a deep psychological insight into the characters and innovative stage designs, realized using modern AI techniques. His productions include Tristan und Isolde, The Magic Flute, Tosca, and the musical Pippi Longstocking, with renowned artists such as Martina Serafin, René Pape, and Anna Maria Kaufmann.
